Loss and memorial 2017
Seeing the birds in their preserved state in the museums, their perfect bodies limp and still, their heads bowed and their spirit gone taking with it their evolutionary brilliance and purpose and leaving nothing in return but a drab line of little corpses.
I thought of the tombs of early knights and their ladies, kings and queens and persons of power and how they are memorialised for ever in effigies of pale marble or alabaster. We look at them and we see their world, their time, their energy of being.
In this project I have tried to celebrate the eternal qualities of birds, so that they can be remembered with that same dignity and respect that we are accustomed to giving to our fellow humans. I hope in this way to increase our understanding of the huge implication of what we are so casually and absent mindedly about to lose.
